Testing in the Age of AI, and Why Human Input Remains Critical
with Marianne Erickson
In our rapidly evolving landscape of software development, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in testing has become increasingly prevalent. AI tools are designed to automate repetitive tasks and enhance efficiency, promising a more streamlined approach to user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) testing.
Despite these advancements, human intervention – and intuition – remains indispensable for ensuring the quality and effectiveness of software products.
This presentation delves into why human oversight is crucial in contemporary UX/UI testing environments. We will explore common pitfalls that AI tools might overlook or misinterpret due to their reliance on algorithms rather than contextual understanding.
By examining case studies and real-world examples, we highlight scenarios where human intervention leads to the discovery of critical issues that automated tests failed to identify. We will discuss the role of empathy in UX/UI testing – how humans can bring a deeper emotional intelligence to understand user needs and behaviors better than machines ever could.
Gain actionable insights for developers, analysts, PMs, testers, and delivery managers looking to optimize their testing strategies by leveraging both human expertise and advanced AI tools.
Marianne Erickson PhD CSM, SAFe Agilist started her career as a professor of literature and translation studies, but nearly drowned under a relentless stack of papers to grade.
After spending 10 years as a technical writer, Marianne was infected by the Agile bug, earned a certification here and there, and has worked in Scrum Master, Product Owner, and Project Manager roles ever since. Marianne joined Perficient in 2024 and is happily consulting at ArchKey Solutions with a team of smart and nimble architects, developers, and analysts.
Incidentally, literature and translation studies proved to be excellent foundations for a career in analysis, because as we like to say in the IIBA, “analysis is everywhere!”
